Sr Staff Data Science Manager at Google = ? at Apple
Interviewing for Sr Staff DS manager at Google, and some unknown level at Apple, although I am told it's a manager of managers role. Info I have on the upcoming loops - Apple said no tech rounds for the onsite! That's interesting? 2 panel interviews... Panel interviews?? Google recruiter said the phone screen will have a DS coding round, then immediately corrected the statement and said, only applied stats? Onsite has no coding rounds either. So both loops have no coding rounds, I am truly surprised.. Got a few questions for the blind folks - 1. What level is a manager of managers at Apple? What is the expected TC for Cupertino? 2. What level is a Sr Staff DS Manager at Google? What does Sr Staff mean for a manager role? Whats the expected TC for mountain view? About me 14 yrs exp, TC 580k non bay area
Sr Staff Sc Manager sounds like L7 TLM. Org of 20-40 people. Managing other TLMs, tech leads and ICs. If they are telling you no coding then I guess it's manager track. Clarify with recruiter what ladder and what level you are interviewing for. Business titles might vary.

L7 DS TLMs have smaller teams than SWE TLMs. Still, sounds fishy.
OP, what's your background, career progression, current role? How did you get L7 loop?
14yr exp, phd, just applied and got a call, so I would say luck. I understand that L7 at Google is a coveted role, but the scope actually sounded smaller than what my 20 person team is delivering now.
I am yet to have the first screen, so this means very little at the moment.

Iām inclined to say M2 since I havenāt seen many external hire M3s and we usually like to promote to M3
M2 is a pay cut for a Google L7. They should go for ICT6 if M3 is hard.
