Intuit has started stack ranking. ~7% of employees receive Do Not Meet Expectations (DNME)
Capital one does, but it’s never been a big deal until recently now that they want to cut jobs. My last two companies (costar group, booz allen(can’t confirm on this one 100%)) didn’t stack rank.

Google stack ranks now. Bottom 8% receive low ratings and might be let go over time. Given that Google is not hiring, the bar is relative and more and more folks will be pushed to lower ratings even if their work doesn't change.
Every company and society stack ranks against different metrics. No way around it, just get good.
It's less about being good or not but rather the destructive competitiveness it creates within the team. Even coworkers are strategizing to throw each other under the bus instead of helping each other deliver team goals.
Yeah I see. Then we'll be taking 'throwing under the bus' behavior as bad and stack rank against that.
