Question about women in their 30’s?
It would be fine to calibrate people against each other but throwing ppl under the bus to achieve un regretted attrition quota is weird. I cannot understand how Amazon is going to attract tech talent with this brutal stack ranking mechanism.
Is this new to AMZN or new to you? Just curious. Stack ranking does suck. Fortunately MSFT did away with it a few years ago but old managing habits die hard.
No we didn’t. We still stack rank.
Stack ranking is also known as real life. The only difference is some people are transparent about it and others do it in a hidden fashion.
Agree. This destroys team culture and creates a survivalist mentality where everyone is just watching out for themselves and doesn't give a shit about others. In my opinion, this is the main contributor to creating an environment where self promoting, back stabbing assholes thrive. I wonder if Jeff just gets a bowl of popcorn and just enjoy watching all the employees being forced to play hunger games.
If you have good hiring and management practices you won't need stack ranking. Managers will know who is struggling and how to help them or can them. Ideally you have a kick-ass team and nobody is underperforming. It does happen.
True, you can have a kick-ass team but unfortunately you still have to stack rank
There haven’t been as many complaints about amazon recently. Have things changed or did people just shut up and take it while the stock price was climbing?
It will attract talent same way as it is attracting since last 20 years, because the target was always there.
