Got an offer for staff SWE at Okta. I know staff at Okta doesn't equate to staff at other tech companies, but it still feels a bit low to me. Interested in feedback on whether this is good. I will be remote from a MCOL city. My understanding from the recruiter is that they had to reach a bit to get to that base, so I'm assuming that's not negotiable. And probably not bonus either since it's a percentage of base. But do you think they could go up on RSUs? Currently it's $150k / 3 year vesting with a 1 year cliff. Update and to answer some questions in the comments. This role is remote from MCOL U.S. I was able to negotiate up to 200k/3 on RSUs. My understanding is that staff level at Okta is really more like senior level at other companies. Given that, I think the TC of close to 300k feels more reasonable.
Low. That’s even lower than Hubs’ middle band for SSE2 and I don’t think Hubs is a high paying company either
I thought hubspot paid pretty good
It’s okay. But definitely not on the level of the big dogs
Is that an actual Staff level?
I don't think what okta calls staff is really staff at most other companies. Probably more like senior. But I feel like the offer is still rather low
I wouldn't take it. Don't leave what you have for something that's not even paying more or offering better WLB
Too much stress for low pay not worth it
Can you elaborate on that? I heard the wlb is pretty good
When u get staff role expectations are more than any senior engineer u are team lead and u shud get paid accordingly and i dont think u r
This looks painful for staff position to be honest. Why not do a senior position for 250 TC.
Wow that is a terrible offer. You need to double that equity at minimum, and even then that’s a low senior offer at most places.
Awfyl
Yeah, that's low.
Any insights on what a reasonable target would be? I'm not in a tier 1 city fwiw. I'm thinking to ask them to go up to 225-250k/3 stock
Low. Okta stock didnt perform well. Maybe thats the reason
