I am a PM L7 in google. Did not feel necessary to get an MBA. Don’t have any outlandish school on my resume. Can use some help to understand whether it is worthwhile to do this? And will it facilitate anything more than what I already have? OR should I focus on work and make a deeper dent there (that’s what I am more used to) 🙂? TC 550++
My 2 cents: I find it hard to see value in online programs. An in-person program (MBA, MSx) can help you get to a CPO role faster. It might not help you skip a level and get to L8 (might have worked for lower levels L5-L7) but can help you get L7.5 in the higher salary band.
The challenge with full time programs is opportunity cost and need to take a mid career break. My plan B is to do nothing else and focus only on job which you can only do so much here.
I’d suggest talking to the program alumni and learn about their journey pre and post the program. If the data suggests that the program can help you achieve your goals, go for it. Your plan B is pretty strong too. I’d kill for such a plan B. 😄
DM ...I finished the course and enjoyed it. Depends on what you are looking for
Found out google has an internal site for Stanford lead and the net emp cost is small. Now seriously looking at it as a continuous learning, nothing more.
That’s awesome! I guess I need a referral for Google and possible interview guidance. Can I DM you for help?
Hi btw what's the net emp cost for Google employees?
Skip it...not worth the effort at your level.
There’s nothing new you will learn that you don’t already know. What’s your objective? Climbing the corporate ladder? Start something on your own? If you feel there are obvious gaps in your education you can consider.
Objective is to target a promo in next 1-2 yrs or a CPO in a strategic fit company after 2-3 yrs.
If you are targeting a promo, this is definitely not the right thing to do. Instead focus on what is required workwise to get to the next level. It will be more targeted and measurable. Similarly, different orgs have different bars for CPO. The program may only add no to marginal value.
