Is meta really worth the wait?
If you have the brains and background to do a AI PhD at Stanford that's what I would personally do. The market for top AI PhD's is super tight and you could pull top dollar immediately with a wide range of options
I would always recommend doing a PhD at Stanford. However I wouldnt recommend doing it in AI anymore, its oversaturated as hell right now and a lot of good ml tools are being built so scientists will not be needed. Do a PhD in Math/Theory so you can switch in and out of fields. Can also do in Systems thats evergreen in tech. However Math phds are most well regarded by quant funds.
If you can afford the time and money opportunity cost then you can’t go wrong with the CS PhD. Generally those guys choose what job they want to do and get it
There was a typo I dont recommend doing an AI phd anymroe
half the MBA i see just end up as PM?
Depends on what you want to do in your life, what area you are naturally good at.
^ I like solving problems in tech and developing products. MBA gives more connections though.
MBA does give more connections, but a big % of those will go to Consulting/Finance/Marketing etc. If ur natural interest and long term carrer goal in tech go for MS in Comp Sc, it will be more relevant, better quality of connections and alignment to ur career
Totally depends on your interests. If you want to get into banking, vc or some other similar career, MBA would be the choice. While GSB would definitely fast track you into leadership roles in tech, you can still get there through the PhD route. Lot of phds start their own company. To be honest, a lot of the stuff taught in MBA can be learnt on your own. GSB however offers unmatched opportunities to build your network. Now if you can do your PhD and also network with GSB folks, I think that would be the best outcome.
Just get the bachelors in CS from Stanford and then go work for FANG for a few years. Infinitely more valuable than spending extra years doing things everyone else has done before in school. Masters means nothing. PhD only means something to academia and research.
Stanford GSB opens up way more opportunities with a much more diverse network. Now if time and money weren’t an issue definitely PhD. Most of the PhDs that I went to school with have to be some of the smartest people I have ever met.
What opportunities Stanford mba give you ? I always see a lot of non profits and social impact startups with mba degrees while not a lot of successful companies at the end.
Much easier to break into upper management roles, consulting, VC/PE, hedge funds. The network is really strong and diverse whereas MS CS just gets you into another SWE job, most likely at a unicorn or FAANG. The end. Source: I did my MS in CS at Stanford
