L4 Google -> 45 interviews, 5 offers, AMA
Recently had Google offer L5, 370k and amazing opportunity at Stanford Ph.D with focus on AI and neuroscience. I think G L5 is also luck, I am not sure if I can get L5 if I interview again. I am pretty dumb tho I am not sure if I want to pursue career in academy. If I do not, I lose all money and years but I will gain lots of learning and skills. Its hard to get in Ph.D in Stanford again if I do not take the opportunity. What can I do please? TC 240, L5
I'd do what interests me most and I can do a reasonably good job at it after my family commitments. Having said that, luck does play a role but as long as you are on upward trajectory in long run, don't worry about getting a L5 in Google.
Got it. Thanks.
part time?
Both fulltime, Ph.D is very flexible.
i meant part time phd could be an option.
What is your age (range)?
27
You maybe 32 or higher if you come out of Phd, your goal then should not be software engineer at google - L5 of L6 but more refined towards area of study. Infact there is a possibility you will earn less during initial years out of Phd. Its a tough choice. Its more of inner goals not necessarily tied to monetary benefits.
Age and YoE? You'll be starting from scratch after PhD.
Interesting, let's say I will work at Google for one year at L5, then if I join Google again after Ph.D, will I start at L3/L4?
Yes. Coming from experience
Why throw in a statement like "I am pretty dumb" it's just weird
not to throw too much shade at OP but seems like a minor flex cuz if you're really dumb, would you get accepted to stanford phd or G L5
That's how I feel about myself. I'm going to say that both opportunities are luck. The same luck may not come again. I'm not that good enough to get L5 and Ph.D relative to my peers at Google
Stanford all the way!
How did you publish enough papers and get into Stanford for PhD after years at Amazon?
Curious about this as well
At Stanford, your advisor will be a leader in their field. Worth a try. You can leave if you don't like it, Google will want you even then.
Wouldn't you have needed to state your intent to attend Stanford by now?
It is 10000x harder to get into phD at Harvard than it is to get into Google. I think you should give that a try. You never know.
Thanks
1. op said stanford 2. stanford admission rate is ~7%, google ~0.5%
