The end of Backdoor Roth?!
You got an offer and are ready to accept. You’re asked about start date. Whether you are currently employed or not, what do you propose that you feel is reasonable and WONT risk a rescinded offer? TC: 0
With H1B transfer, I’ve never switched less than 2 months. 2 weeks after I get my approval
Inform the recruiter that you can start next Monday BUT the following week you have a pre planned family vacation for a week. This way you do the onboarding and get laptop and piece of mind to secure the job then chill the following week.
Do u lose pto?
I’ve done this!
Anywhere from 1-3 months. Jumping too early into your next job is always a bad idea and risks burnout.
3-4 weeks is standard. Assuming this is for jobs in the US. 2 weeks for notice to current employer and then a week or two to chill before the next grind. Likewise, Ive told new employers of pre-planned time off that I hope they honor. I’ve never had problems in past.
I asked Meta for 7 months because otherwise I'd had to return the sign in bonus from Wayfair. They wanted me to sign the offer with the start date, but no problems with the delay.
When I got an offer for my most recent consulting gig, I managed to extend it for at least two months until my contract role ended, from which I started the following Monday, and hit the ground running—the rest is history. My mom taught me to never quit a job without having a job, and it’s advice I’ve followed for years now. It’s also why I’ve always quit a job on Friday and went to one on Monday. I recognize you from your posts.
Thank you. I’m glad to hear it!
When I read this I thought it said "start dating - what do you usually ask for?". For that I would say sex within the first week.
Ask for 3 months. If they are not OK, they would let you know.
How many US-based employers are good with 3 months between accepting an offer and starting? Genuine question.
All of the large corporations
