Start up offer review

Have an offer on table from a small start up about 150 people. Been around for 12 years and have 300 million in total funding, based in Bay Area. Currently late stage series G. I like the team and company everyone highly educated and seems like they want to IPO in a few years. Good leadership with experienced C Suite. Lockheed isn’t teaching me anything relevant and this company gives me a chance to actually pursue strong modern technical skills. Initial offer: 150k base 85k stock (over 4 years) 5k sign on bonus No talk of yearly bonus (unsure if there is one waiting on official details from recruiter) YOE 1.5 Current TC 127k with Lockheed paying for my masters as well. 122k base 5k bonus Masters is about 10k per year and have one year left. When I leave I owe Lockheed the last year of expenses (roughly 10k) I know the market is very hot. How should I go about negotiating here? I know they won’t be able to match FAANG companies. #engineering #swe #offer #software #startup #startupoffer

Can you break down your current comp? Start asking for 10k sign on bonus, if needed over two years to pay for masters. Phrase it in a way that makes it clear the request is tied to your education/personal growth. Ask if base or stocks grant are negotiable as well

Corrected my current comp! And okay great, I was thinking of asking for a larger sign-on bonus like you stated and more options. I doubt they can push too much more on my base since I am 1) young and inexperienced and 2) they are a start-up with limited capital.

You can also push a bit and accept 😊 dont be too greedy, once you prove your value your comp will grow internally.
