I don’t know how we will do it just yet, but the research is promising. I think we can use ML + a sense of breaking things + ability to raise funds faster as a tech company + RNA technology used for Covid and the research that already exists to solve this problem. If we fail, it’s still super fulfilling. If we succeed, we’d be changing the world forever.
You have some of the buzzwords down. Good luck.
Thank you! :)
Look at all of the optimistic comments!
Because they’re soliciting this momentous idea on Blind. No business acumen nor clear understanding of the problem or solution. At best, this individual is seeking someone else to solve for. At worse, they’re virtue signaling.
What did you base your assumptions here on? You cannot conclude “no business acumen” and “no clear understanding of the problem or the solution”. Also, at best, I’m genuinely asking for help to solve a major problem. Also, this is one of the best use cases of Blind. The anonymous nature of the platform allows folks to be bold and ask questions without reservations. Even if they are mocked. It’s actually an awesome place for discussing big ideas without fear of being ridiculed. Furthermore, virtue signaling wouldn’t apply since you can’t give me credit for asking. If there is room on the platform to discuss TC and politics and being single and all these other topics, there is room on here to ask this question. Now you can disagree with the premise but don’t make assumptions on who you are talking to blind. Thanks for you input anyway
Take a look at the pipelines of Moderna and BioNTech. They include drug trials for treating cancers of the breast, prostate, skin, pancreas, brain, lung and other tissues, as well as vaccines against everything from influenza to Zika and rabies. How would you propose to catch up ?
Who says we need to catch up? We can help them accelerate testing. One of the biggest problems is that we can’t test fast enough because the trails can be deadly so you need a lot of checks in balances in place which slows down progress. If we can use AI to help us test via simulations versus actual human bodies we can accelerate testing without risking lives. Of course it’s a hard problem to solve but the responses here tell me folks are too scared to try because it’s a daunting task. This is reasonable and expected. This means the opportunity is there.
Great .. you should have a conversation with them
Got a potential co-founder for you.
Good one! Haha
Starting a “tech” company to “cure cancer”, classic Silicon Valley bubble thinking. Throw an app at every problem.
I can see how this can be perceived this way. But mainly referring to tech’s ability to accelerate testing via AI. Each era is defined by an industry or two. It was oil for a while, now it’s tech. Your TC compared to the average American is proof of this. My point is that we should take advantage of this field to solve problems that perhaps others haven’t thought about with a computer science lens. At worst, you fail, but it’s one of the best problems to try solving.
On blind. Sure!
I do work on cancer research and long story short, sorry we're far far away from curing every form of cancer.
We are. What have we tried when it comes to AI/ML? And which cancer are we closet to solving and how?
Check out research by Microsoft Research, Amazon, Google in use of AI/ML in this space. Liver, Breast and lung cancer are most researched. Prostate, Breast, Skin, Thyroid are close to what you say as solvable and have 90%+ survival rates. Lung and liver are less than 20% survival rates. Pancreatic is most fatal with less than 10%. Actually curing is very hard, it takes clinical trials and each trial can take months. Check out - https://clinicaltrials.gov/

all the best
Thanks!
