L4 Google -> 45 interviews, 5 offers, AMA
I am starting as a senior software engineer at Huawei in their Markham, Ontario office next week. Its the only offer I could manage after getting laid off in Feb. I would normally not accept this offer due to the obvious red flags with this company but the market is horrible right now and I don't think I will get another offer anytime soon. The product that my team is building is pretty exciting and I feel there is an opportunity to work on some really challenging problems, but I am concerned about work life balance and general culture as well as general geopolitical issues surrounding this company. I raised my concerns during the interview, and they assured me that most teams in Huawei Canada, including the one I was interviewing for rarely work long hours and weekends, and culture is extremely open and collaborative with plenty of opportunities to make an impact and grow. Nevertheless, there are plenty of red flags based on glassdoor and indeed reviews. What are the things I should be on the lookout for when I start next week? Can anyone share anecdotes and personal experiences (first and second hand) wrt working at Huawei? TC (Next week): 180K CAD YOE: 7

Keep looking for jobs and leave as soon as you find one. Huawei in NA is a sinking ship because of geopolitics.
HW is a good company if you're starting bcs you learn a loooot and things move quick, so you can get promoted quick if you work hard enough About work sometimes you have to check stuff with people in china so check the time difference with your office, also most management is Chinese only, good thing is there is not much office politics like in most Americans companies
How was it?
Chinese companies actually cannot tread the wlb fine line in North America especially due to their bad reputation regarding conditions in China. So they are always under much more scrutiny. But on the other hand, don’t take offers from companies you don’t like. You can’t hide how you feel and it will bite you one day for sure
I am not going to get another offer anytime soon. the market is terrible right now. I am getting resume rejects almost everywhere, and those that are shortlisting me are rejecting me at the hiring manager screen. The market is really saturated right now with desperate candidates and there are comparatively fewer openings. I would prefer accepting this, and continue interviewing.
This is the only circumstance under which you take it.
