Posting on behalf of a friend. Hi. I have two offers in my hand(Seattle based Unicorn FTE and Microsoft 18 months contract role). I would love to join the startup but it is 1 hr 15 mins away from my home during rush hour. As much as I want to work for a passionate unicorn, work life balance is very important to me because I have a 2 year old. I cant deal with the guilt of dropping him off at 8 and picking him up at 6. Msft contract on the other hand is WFH coz they dont have a desk for me 😒. The manager seemed to care less. I live in Redmond and I really wanted a Eastside company to work out but things are not aligning the way I want. I'm finding it hard to let go of startup because they seemed fantastic but i'll be miserable with the commute. I was a FTE at Amazon and it worked out okay because of shuttles. Im on H4 ead so no visa restrictions here. Startup is paying a bit more in $ compared to MSFT hourly. Msft contract doesnt seem exciting at all but no commute seems like a great idea at this point in life. Help, please. I'm so torn #microsoft #amazon
Startup contract vs mSFt full time is comparable
Move. Startup.
Join Microsoft to work remotely and join startup full time..I doubt people even work at MSFT

How long is the Microsoft contract? If it’s long enough, it may be enough experience and enough time to find something great that is also FTE. Do they also convert to FTE if performance is good? If MSFT is through an Agency, you can ABSOLUTELY negotiate. Try to get Msft up a few bucks an hour and then consider that
MSFT is 18 months contract through an agency. I'll definitely try to negotiate a bit further. Not sure about fte conversion at this point
