Two-day sprints, weekly demos, people pointing fingers at people, stubborn boss, excessive attention to scalability and features around a core experience that is still far from being good, micromanagement, lots of software rot and tech debt, list goes on. Is this normal for a 1yo company? Burnout is real: is this how it’s gonna be like even after finishing the prototype? Edit: Tc 100k in LA area. YOE: 2. #burnout #depression #mentalhealth
Yes. Tc?
Yes , this is normal and burnout is real
Welcome to Startup Life. You either love it or leave quickly.
Software rot and tech debt?? Startup right? Wondering how you will have tech debt
Yeah op sounds Junior if he thinks a startup can have tech debt. No project less than 3 years old has tech debt. You want to see tech debt? Go to Google or Microsoft lol
You can easily write tech debt in real time. Someone deciding they don’t need localization right now so you don’t bother with any string abstractions. Literally every TODO comment you have ever seen/written is tech debt immediately.
Startups aren’t worth it anymore. Way lower odds of exiting than before due to funds drying up.
That sounds like a big tech company.
Consider joining a series B/C/D for a different flavor of startup life
OMG you have sprints? Be careful with the micromanaging it can be a bad sign. If you notice a buildup of “processes” it’s time to leave; bureaucracy kills companies.
Wdym by buildup of processes?
If you start having to jump through more and more hoops to get work done. Like file reports, get signoffs. It’s especially bad if the execs start formalizing this in a bunch of company wide policies and procedures early on. If any of this is happening pre-revenue or before strong cashflow, then gtfo.
No, that’s a shit tier startup. Find a new job, I’m serious. That TC is wayyyy below what it should be for that lifestyle. My startup is super chill and reasonably organized although things do shift. Hell even Optum pays like 120k to newish engineers full remote and no one there did shit shit when I worked there. Get out now for real.
Appreciate that comment, thank you so much.
