Looking at two roles: Google: - L6 customer Engineer - 187K base - 80K bonus - 150K GSUs over 4 years (USD) - great benefits - 10k sign on bonus Startup: - no level, Field Sales Engineer - 230K base - 70K bonus - stock options of around $300K over 4 years - potential to IPO - looking at completing series C Current (vmware) - P5 (Staff SE) - 208K base - 65k variable - $50K RSU remaining, no tops ups - 15 YOE Which should I pick?
I'd lean Google. YOE? Great offers all around for an SE
15 YoE
Startup is the the wiser choice, eventually you’ll get to google for a higher role plus they’re looking for that startup mentality
GCP will probably have much more typical SE structure you are used to, but startup is a great offer and YOLO factor as well. Both are good options and upside. Have you tried to get Google to up the OTE compared to the startup?
Startup is an amazing offer. IMO FAANG/GCP/AWS doesn’t have the same prestige/payoff for sales/pre-sales roles as it does for SWEs. Plus GCP will Always be there. A strong offer with a startup with a chance to hit it big is tough to pass up.
Curious why you think pre sales doesn't have the same prestige or payoff as SWE?
That wasn’t necessarily what I meant but also it seems to be true, especially on the payoff side. (TC) What I meant is that for Pre-Sales Places like GCP and AWS are not really the “pinnacle”. I mean look at the offers here, L6 at GCP is the lowest. As a HM for a different vendor, I’d honestly rather have someone from the presales org at Cisco or PANW, in my experience much more rounded candidates come from there. (AWS and GCP over index on tech skills)
That’s a strong base from GCP for Canada. You can push them on sign on, seen 30-50k sign on offers for L6 and you can have them bump up RSUs too. RSUs for US offers pushes upwards of 300k USD for L6 Is this for Enterprise and what region?
They weren’t willing to budge without looking and the full offer from startup. That’s shady IMO.
Don’t see the issue since you already have a higher offer that you can leverage and negotiate
Great offer from startup. Can you PM me name?
