Does having amazon Aws on your resume gives you an edge? I work at Accenture with great work life balance. I have around 1.5 years of exp. I work around 8-10 hrs in a week and also take care of my 9 month old daughters without any help. My husband works at Microsoft so also has a good WLB. I wanted to join Faang specially microsoft, prepped leetcode for 3-4 months. I have only 1 offer atm from Amazon. I failed Microsoft and google. Current Tc: 82k New Tc: 175k. With Accenture on my resume I have a hard time recruiter reaching me and also no growth and no learning opportunity but I get alot of time to spend with my daughter. My husband suggested me to join amazon because it will make my resume shine, work there for few months and move somewhere else but Is the new Tc and brand name really worth the WLB I loose? Also nanny and day care is out of the question Atm due to covid. What if the new opportunity takes a really long time to come? Is Amazon on my resume worth taking a risk for?
I wouldn’t join a company for only a few months. Make sure you’re able to commit at least 2 years (bare min 1 year)
Terrible idea. Why give up the work life balance? And working at a company for only a few months won’t give you any meaningful credibility. So many other better tech options than aws
OP, listen to this person
I worked at Accenture before and still miss it sometimes... Grass isn't always greener on the other side
Don’t do it. I came from Accenture strategy and had a blast in my Toyota. Now I cry in my bmw m4
I’m going to be honest: in isolation, without considering your home situation and kids etc, literally anything is better than Accenture on your cv. If you can commit 1 year to Amazon then move, else stay.
Wrong
I’m not a parent but I do believe spending time with your children while they’re young is important. Friends that work a lot regret missing out on their child’s life. I think Amazon will always be there when you’re ready. But if your husband supports you if you have to work long hours it may be worth it. You’d want to stay at least 2 years bc of their vesting schedule.
I don’t see how you could watch a kid full time while starting a new job. I wouldn’t join Amazon if you can’t commit 40 hours a week of pretty focused effort, at least on the initial ramp up. In most other scenarios I’d say make the leap!
Hey, I have a L4 SDE offer in the FireTV org. I am a new grad but I am currently working at AT&T. Do you think I should join Amazon?
Just do it but be ready to work
