Current job at 100-person startup TC: 88k base, no equity or bonus Benefits: minimum 28 days PTO recommended, 401k (no match), $500/year learning bonus, 80% health insurance for employee and dependents, plus dental and vision 100% remote with 2-3x/year retreats (I’d stay in Texas) Note: Boss is a control freak who doesn’t give me more projects to grow because she wants to do everything. Also has no background in product design and keeps bringing up print design concepts because of her traditional design training. Average tenure of an employee under her is roughly a year. New offer: TC: 110k base, no equity, company incentive bonus Benefits: unlimited PTO, 3% 401k match, free lunch In office 3 days a week, health insurance, life insurance Location: Manhattan, New York Note: I ran some numbers and the COLA-adjusted take home is around the same. Plus I’d keep my car in Texas

The lack of growth and controlling boss is enough to make me seriously consider but are you sure that math is right?? New York is insanely expensive. Where are you gonna live?

Sorry, a little misleading when I say take home is the same. In my “take home” I’m including rent (2bd in Texas, I’d downgrade to a studio or 1bed in New York).

Move to NYC if you’re young. You’ll get way more experience and growth there and if you feel like moving back to Texas later when you have kids or want to leave the rat race you can always move back.
