Stay or Leave

L5 PM for 2+ years and getting promoted to L6. The team is good and manager trusts me. Off late there’s been churn in team with few peeps leaving as they couldn’t see promo opportunities. The organization is growing though. I’ve led this B2B product from inception to scale and also see runway for growth. Getting promoted means will start from bottom of pay band. I’m tempted to prep for FAANG like companies which is stressful while juggling work but there’s prospect of better pay or negotiate at AMZN. What are your thoughts and let me know if you need more info. Also share your reasoning and the companies I need to eye for (if a move is your reco). Deets: $160k TC L5 Seattle | Total YoE-5 Age <30 / Bachelor Promo may get me 10% hike GC priority date ready but H1B amendment in works

levels.fyi and weep, you should be pulling at least 250 if you can get a FAANG job. Not sure how much your location is hurting you.

Lots of people voted that I move. I’m curious to know why you chose that over “get the offer and negotiate”?

You're just so underpaid that there's not much point negotiating. Also if you can only get a raise by shopping outside offers then that's a big hassle that's not going away. Anyway you're young so it's a good time to switch company and learn how things are done elsewhere.

Even dive and save will only make your TC artificially high for 2 years and it resets. Being promoted at amazon is the most inefficient way for TC growth and progression. Some team in Amazon has truly innovative and interesting work but if you do not want to be severly underpaid 30+%, you need to move. If you are L7 or above, this suggestion might not apply.
