I saw the recently open threads about Meta reneging signed offers and got concerned, if I relocate to go to Meta (London) and they renege my offer, my whole life would be upside down. I have a pretty good deal in my current company, as I’m a top performer that people trust. Although I live in a terrible country, I found a very good place with ridiculous low rent in one of the very few good cities to live. Meta’s TC is very good, the benefits are better and I would have more vacation days. Additionally, I think the work would be very interesting, but I like my current job as well. I did some analysis on the TC diff, for the first year it will be pretty low, around ~7%, due to the difference in taxes and rent. After the yearly rewards stacks in a 5 year period, Meta would stay in a +40% plateau. Of course, not considering promos for both sides. I’m outside NA, Europe and India, but won’t tell the exact region for anonymity. What do you think about that? Does anyone went through a similar situation? #meta
Although I see long tenures at meta but know it is a lot of politics and perhaps it is more reasonable to think 4years might be the cap.
Thanks for the info, that’s helpful
Meta. Take myself as an example, I worked in a second /third tier internet company in China. Later, I resigned and joined my husband in the US. I was lucky to pass Meta interview 5 years ago and got the E4 offer. I am E6 right now. Meta has lots of dynamics and large opportunities to learn from peers and colleagues, this is the most precious resources in one’s career development. I am grateful for the transition from an unnamed company to word class top tiers. I am confident that if I were stuck at my previous company in my home country, I can’t be in such a position. One the one hand, I will be kept continuously working on something “dirty” without growth opportunities and my credits will go to male colleagues in a silent way,On the other hand I don’t have the opportunity like I have here to learn from coworkers on both hardcore skills and soft skills, like how to politely complaining certain situations upwards
Thanks, that’s very insightful. What do you consider third tier companies?
BAT is first tier. Baidu or recently byte dance, A is for Alibaba, T is for Tencent. There are many profitable startups belonging to second tiers. Also other internet companies. My previous company is on the verge of second or third tier, it’s not existing anymore
If your current employer is a competitor of Meta, you can sue on a reneged offer for fraud. You’ll have to show that meta never intended to hire you and wanted your current employment terminated. Difficult to prove but given Metas success rates with lawsuit, you’ll be ok
anyone seeing this joing meta london around Mid march ??
This channel is so fixated on the TC that they will vote for Meta just because the numbers are bigger. You'd better adjust the compensation numbers by subtracting the difference in cost of living and taxes before polling
I understand, however, it is very difficult to adjust to cost of living when Meta provides free food and free transportation. Without those benefits, those would make London very expensive compared to my current place. The only thing I can directly compare is that rent in London is around 5x higher, everything else is possibly cheaper.
Don't forget taxes! The rent and the taxes would be the biggest cost lines in your budget
not sure what team you're on in London - just FYI: https://deadline.com/2024/01/facebook-instagram-parent-company-meta-shuttering-another-london-office-1235695228/ everyone's experience is different - i say take Meta though. good experience / high TC!

L4 Google -> 45 interviews, 5 offers, AMA
Go to Meta then transfer to the US and start making real money
Is that really possible? Heard that most companies were not allowing US transfers.
It is possible for sure! You will be doing inter-company transfer on L1 visa. You need to be a high performer too though
