Currently at L5 (7 YoE) and about to become a parent soon. While I’m super excited on the personal front and so looking forward to the baby, I’m also wondering what to do on the career side of things. The parental leave is definitely going to reset things. I’ll go back to being a CME in the current team. Seriously considering various options. - Internal transfer to another team where I’d have a chance to start things afresh and have a good change of environment (what are some PAs with promising / exciting projects in the near future?). - Prep LC + Sys design and interview and potentially move to L6 roles externally. - Stay in current team. Personally, G has been the best thing that has happened to my life. The combination of good work + good people + decent wlb + good pay — I wonder if I can find it elsewhere. So, if there’s a good opportunity for internal transfer, I might prefer that over external. That’s where I’m confused though and would like some sage advice from the community here. Interview externally and switch if there is something compelling otherwise stay for a bit. Kids are exhausting and staying in a familiar team is helpful when you lack sleep and can’t even think straight
Appreciate the advice.
What is a CME? I don't yet understand the problem with taking your parental leave and then resuming on your current team.
I would have stayed. One step at a time. Time required as a parent is highly unpredictable (definitely over and above what you plan for)
Makes sense.
Congratulations! I would suggest stay where you are and move internally after you are back from your leave.
I definitely would not leave G if starting a family
Could you elaborate on why? I understand G has good wlb + good pay but is it the only one?
Lol for the most part. Where else do you make $300k plus with working 20 hours a week
