I do not like current team anymore for many reasons and was thinking for a switch internally. But switching will reset all the good work I placed on this team. Also in new team, I will probably get an average feedback on next Forte due to my short tenure, which will impact my compensation. In current team, I do not see any good project on the horizon that would really interest me. I have talked to a few team for transfer and got verbal confirmation from a few. Now I can join any of them and start everything from the beginning. Or I can suck up the mess in current team and try to push for promotion to L6. If I get support from manager and skip, I can aim for Q4 which is another 5 months. But I am yet to start that conversation with manager and there is no guarantee of it happening in Q4. And now I am in a limbo on which path to take. With new team: Forte will be MEETS, Forget any salary increase next year. Promotion delayed, everything will reset. But will have better project, better life. With current team: No interesting work, not the right team anymore and can deteriorate more. But can expect EXCEED Forte next year. Can initiate promotion conversation now, but no guarantee to get it in Q4. Any suggestion or may be some thought on what you would do if you were on the same shoe. TC: 217
Eh, half a year isn’t TOO long of a wait. Can’t you just leave after Q4 if you don’t get the promo?
But after Q4, why not wait for Q1 to get promoted? And if not, why not wait Q2... That could go on forever without a clear conversation and defined path to promotion with the manager
Fair, OP updated with more information afterwards. IMO the advice I have for OP (repeated by others) is to talk to their manager

Switching teams before promo seems like it would set you back 1-2 years. Where as waiting would only take 6 months ish.
Should have updated on the question. I did not have any conversation on the promotion yet, just planning to start and can not confidently say it will be achievable in Q4
Ah you should talk with your manager to figure this out. Then the decision is much easier to stay.
