Hi All, Recently accepted an offer at a pharma company for a Sr. Manager role. After accepting, I heard from a hospitality company about a Director level role. Same base salary which was intriguing. More details below: Pharma company: Base Salary: 150 - 160k Bonus: 15% (could be a lot of upside here) IC No equity 15 minute commute by car (in suburbs where I am) Hybrid Hospitality company: Base Salary: 150 - 160k Bonus: 22% People Manager (3 direct reports) 10-15k equity with 4yr vesting period 45 minute commute by train (in city) Hybrid 8 YOE, all finance/accounting Pharma pays more than most industries and base salary-wise this proves that point. There isn’t much tech where I am but a lot of pharma so I think pharma is the most lucrative industry-wise. Pharma folks love people with pharma experience so I think being in pharma will better maximize my future TC. Should I just stick with the higher paying industry despite a lower bonus percentage?
Depends on the responsibilities, I would get the people manager role.
The pharma role is Corporate FP&A whereas the hospitality role is Supply Chain FP&A. The pharma company is smaller and I’d get direct exposure to the c-suite. The hospitality company is larger and I would mainly partner with the supply chain org. There is good internal mobility at the pharma company. Not sure about the hospitality company.
Makes sense. I think corp FPA is better and transferable to other industry should you choose to move industry.
People Management vs. shorter commute. Personally I'd pick the shorter commute. It will signficantly improve your QoL.
Agreed! I think the people managing will come with time and the more important thing would be to pursue industries and roles that interest me more. Pharma > Hospitality
Based on what I’ve read, I would definitely stick with the pharma company. I don’t believe an extra 60 minutes of commute time each day when you go into and out of the office, plus direct reports, is worth the extra 7% bonus and 10-15k equity for the four year vest. Plus, corporate FP&A is extremely transferable and has desired experience from many employers. Supply Chain FP&A has its merit but it is certainly more niche. That’s just my two cents
