Stock refreshers at Microsoft compared to Google, Amazon and Fb

I have heard that refreshers at Microsoft is nowhere compared to what is given at other companies. Any tips about how to get maximum refreshers during promotions, performance reviews, etc..

We don’t call them refreshers at Microsoft. There is a target amount of stock per level. To exceed, have very high business impact and make sure your manager and the rest of your org knows about it.

What is exactly called and how is it given?

Microsoft wqRR01 Feb 12, 2020

It is called annul stock award and it's value is determined by the current Level and business impact created in that fiscal year

They are essentially peanuts up to and including L65, even getting the maximum is still bad compared to other tech companies. But exceptional people at Microsoft get out-of-band stock grants called SSAs (special stock awards). I got three (total of $150k in 18 months) as level 61 But again, even getting one is exceptional so don’t count on them)

It's not exceptional people only. It depends on a lot of external factors

Hey thanks for the reply! Can you share a glimpse of what kind of impact did you do on the team and if possible share any tips to someone about dos and dont’s about how to go about doing things? Will be really helpful to get these things from person of your stature.

I was obsessed with my work and really didn’t do it to get any rewards. My impact: I pulled my team from deep shit where my skip was about to be let go. They were trying to fix a critical system for months. Latency was like 100 seconds and reliability was like 50%. I single handedly brought latency down to ~10ms and reliability was 100%. Then I led a v-team initiative that changed how Azure handles incidents. That project has its own team now 😎 They tried to keep me by offering me a senior promotion and my exit interview was with the VP. Three weeks after I left my whole team was dissolved 🤭🤭🤭 I think I need to change my username because this story makes me easily identifiable

Impressive, what’s your TC now? What was it at Microsoft?

Google Uctu67 Feb 13, 2020

Even at L66 they were less than my L6 numbers at Google.

Google Drunk 🥴 Feb 13, 2020

L66 is like $72k vesting over 5 years. That’s less than L4’s $75k over 4 years

Yup.
