Amazon the hardest FAAMG to get passed the 1st stage for software engineers?
Verizon, Coca-cola, Unilever, etc. recently stopped advertisting on Facebook protesting its inability to delete hate speech. I am not a heavy fb user, and the hate speeches are difficult to “search” specifically. So I am curious what kind of hate speech these companies are protesting specifically? 1) General, any kinds of hate speech? 2) Trump’s posts like “you lo we sh”? 3) Posts specifically against BLK ppl? 4) Posts relevant to political ads? 5) Sth else? #facebook
Cancel culture at its finest. Bribing these big-time CEOs to influence elections is sure a lot easier than bribing congresspeople & presidential candidates huh. There is zero disclosure obligation for these CEOs.
Who do you think is paying these companies lmao, the same people being murdered by police and racists? Seems like a silly theory you have.
I'm not suggesting that actually happened, but imo people seem too complacent to the idea of delegating the power of "content removal" and "discussion policing" to these social media companies, without any calls to hold these companies accountable to the same level of scrutiny as governmental agencies.
Google “coca cola discrimination” and look at the series of cases they have been found guilty of discrimination. Page 1 of of google results had 6 different cases across the last 2 decades. Hypocrites. Facebook actually stops more discriminating content than any other tech company on the planet.
Chance to cut ad spending in weak economy while getting a huge PR boost out of it, why would you not take it? It's good business. Any company that was weighing about cutting ad spending will jump on this bandwagon.
Exactly
These companies have no money to spend on advertising- rather than admitting they haven’t made any revenues, they are shifting the blame to Facebook
Ridiculous. Coca-Cola has no moral rights to complain against Facebook. It has literally spoilt the health of so many people around the world with it's sugary drinks and now they start complaining about fb . What a joke !
Yes because that’s totally the same thing 🙄
It’s not the same. It’s worse.
They will likely be back in a month or two
Diageo just announced they are pausing as well
As a Digital Designer and working in advertising in the past, streaming platforms will be the smarter decision imo; given that more people are wfh and are going to be watching streaming platforms at a higher rate I wonder if that’s why FB wanted to get into the Gaming with partnering with Microsoft, an area to put their ads in. 🤔
Don’t get this. They are asking Facebook for censorship on hate speech and discrimination, but is it only censorship towards conservatives not liberals? When someone say conservatives are racists. Will this be banned? Trump or republicans ads, post, comment probably will be banned, since not everyone agree with BLM. So basically, we can only hear the voice of liberals on social media now
They're seizing the opportunity to get free advertising off the current movement for free. Nothing more, nothing less. They'll be back to advertising on Facebook in no time.
I doubt they will be back soon. This is easier way to break long term contracts
@salesforce what do you mean be “break long term contracts”? You don’t need a contract to advertise on FB. +1 Microsoft, imo most of these companies needed to cut advertising given their declining revenues anyway, they’re just using the movement to their advantage.
