I interviewed at google 3 months ago….at the time my recruiter suggested that feedback for system design is very positive but coding is mixed….and I have been in team match since. I asked my recruiter to try for engprod as well but apparently there hasn’t been much interest in the profile even for engprod. I am perplexed how can interview performance be both good enough to try for team match but bad enough to actually get team match call. So frustrating 😡, this interview experience has left me so sour that I will never interview for google unless I am desperate for a job. #tech #google
I have been in team match phase for 9 months. L7 manager role
Same here. For 6-7 months
Recruiter said HC decision is valid for a year, that happened only in April-May
Headcount is low across the board so you’re competing with a bunch of external candidates and a bunch of qualified internal candidates.
Yup. Very slim pickings yet recruiters are still feeding numerous new applicants into the pipeline. Is this just to show they are busy doing something?
I understand that and I am not saying why not hire me but this could very well be a - “sorry we decided to move forward with another candidate “ scenario…but google doesn’t want to cut you loose cuz if they cut you loose then they’ll have to interview atleast 20 more candidates to get someone to the same stage…but for me as a candidate it was infuriating….i wonder why do people put up with this..especially folks who are already at big tech….anyways I am just ranting I am happy that I exited the process…
I have been in team match three separate times. 1st time, took other offer after 1 mo. 2nd time took 4 months to match then downlevelled and declined for other better offer. 3rd time now 3 months and counting.
You weren’t good enough simple as that. Hiring managers are spoilt for choice now and with your mixed feedback your profile is at the bottom of the pile.
That’s perfectly all right and it would have saved me so much time if they would have just said so in the beginning…I mean its not first time I would be rejected…but why drag it out…
Your results probably weren’t catastrophically bad and during good times it might have gotten a match
Op, some Orgs inside Google are changing in order to avoid this situation. After the phone screen, if you pass, then they will show your CV to different managers and if they like you, then you can proceed with the interview process. At least, you have the guarantee that if you pass as top candidate, you will get a match. And if you do so so, you will be rejected. but based on your comments, i don’t think you had a chance of finding a team. Maybe you could redo the interviews in the future.
Thats good to hear..naah I think I am done now…I interviewed in 2019 back then the offer wasnt good but the process was bearable…but this time it was horrendous…wait for months only to get lowballed or downleved…I dont think I wil be up for it again…
Yeah, the market is bad now. Sadly, a lot of lowballing at this moment.

Common misconception is that you can "pass" an interview at Google. No matter what interview feedback you have, you need a manager who wants to hire you. Unfortunately, Google keeps perpetuating this sense that you have cleared some gate. Also, mixed coding feedback is going to make it very, very hard to find someone to hire you. Google fetishizes coding. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I feel your frustration.
I dont mind the bad news…but I am just confused either I performed good enough or I dint…how can it be both…how can I be stuck in some non existent middle ground. I have moved on as well..yesterday I sent a note to my recruiter that I dont want to continue…but this was easily the most irritating process I have ever gone through
So you think If you pass the interview you should be able to 100% get a team match?
