Contemplating switching to Stripe from Grubhub but want to know the work life balance at Stripe. My current WLB is REALLY good and hoping that Stripe doesn't have a bad WLB or toxic culture. Can any current or former employees give insights into this New role is Risk Analyst Current TC $84K Possible future TC $100k+( still in negotiations)
What is a "good" WLB? Seriously. Working 8-5 (with occasional special needs beyond) and working hard seems reasonable to me. (Edited to add: I wish I actually worked like this in reality.)
Have no issue working hard but more interested in knowing if working over 40 hours a week is a regular thing
> 40 hours is bad wlb? That bar is pretty low
Working hard isn't the issue, I'm more interested in not working over 40 hours regularly
@ OP. Not to knock on you but wanting to work only 40 hrs is gonna be tough at Stripe. Not sure how other Stripes feel but i think 40 aint gonna happen. Im certainly not online doing daily work more than 40-45 but many additional hours at night catching up and working on projects… not sure how anybody can be successful wanting to work a max of 40 hrs. Especially based on your TC. Im guessinfg you are early stages in your career. Just my opinion
How’s the interview for risk analyst ?
Still not finished but seems to be 3 rounds. From people I've spoke to the process varies from some needing leetcode to others just having to answer behavioral questions. I'll know tomorrow what the full process is but haven't been given any take home work or tests yet
Just got an update on the process and it's a total of 5 total interviews. None longer than 1 hour
Just work at a sustainable pace and remain interview ready and if it’s not enough it’s not enough. don’t go in to mental health debt for your job, just move on. You can’t really know until you’re inside any job.
Thanks for the response and this is the best mentality to have for work overall
YOE?
Its ok. It can be busy and hectic at times. Stripe is still startup life so they have this philosphy “if you need it, build it” Which takes time. So it wont be great wlb, but that depends on your idea of wlb. I have a family but find its decent. Certainly on my team, if you have time off, you will not get pinged (unless emergency since i work in security). Culture is great. I know some post on Blind say toxic culture or felt it might be based in interview. I think the culture is top notch If u want to clock in, clock out 9-5 it might not be for you. I often try to catch up on projects a couple nights a week. Not sure if Risk Analyst roles will have a lot of projects. In summary, its decent wlb for me but def not a 9-5. But i knew that going into my role and am pretty happy with it
I don’t know if this is an incredible place to work for a passionate engineer or just a company with bad WLB ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Depends on your perspective. I replied to another post above. To think you’ll work 40 hrs max as OP wants, certainly wont happen at Stripe. Its not the place for everybody Personally i love the culture and wlb. Im ok with >40 hrs as were buiding out a new team. WLB needs vary by person and a preference. Cheers and good luck on your decision
Reviews here and elsewhere freaked me out but I went ahead and took an offer anyway since many smart people I knew were working there. Three months in and honestly it's not bad and I find some of the claims overblown. There's lots to do for sure and meeting with people across timezones can mean working off hours, but overall I think it was actually an improvement in WLB for me coming from other startups and academia. Also, the people are generally great.
Can I DM you?
Sure!
Lol, are you serious?
What role are you in?
Any @sripe employee to help me with referrals
What job role, YOE and Location ? Current job and new job New TC ?
