1. Both Stripe and Bolt powers Payments. I read somewhere Bolt supports multi PSP when one payment processor fails backup will run to process payments 2. Stripe and Bolt have their Fraud solutions. Stripe Radar, Bolt Fraud tool 3. Stripe and Bolt have checkout functionality. However, Bolt has 1-click, embedded checkout, remote checkout to integrate with social platforms 4. Stripe has other tools like Atlas, connect, tax, treasury, Climate etc and I'm not sure how much revenue they are getting with these additional services 5. Both Stripe and Bolt have Merchant Analytics tools 6. Bolt has 12.6 M shoppers to power network effects and the D2C apps. My question is whats the moat with Stripe and Bolt as they keep coming up in any startup discussions on Blind, Twitter, friends and teammates chat? Tc: 270K YOE: 5
Bolt doesn't process payments it merely stores user payment information so that they don't have to provide it every time they want to buy something. Stripe is super set of what bolt does.
Bolt can be a payment processor or it can act as a gateway. Flexible product imo while Stripe is a tightly coupled product. I have some mutual friends working at both companies
Get your facts together
Netflix uses adyen
Complications multiply geometrically as you add more countries and payment methods to the mix. Many countries don’t use cards for online purchases. Cross-border money movement involves setting up dozens of corporations and obtaining money movement licenses between every country or region you care to move funds between. This involves building an incredible number of relationships with processors, banks, and governments worldwide.
Probably late to this thread but what is the moat for Bolt? The positioning/value prop seems to be around increasing conversation rates and reducing cart abandonment specifically due to the “inconvenience” of having to enter information at checkout. As others have pointed out, they seem to offer some other solutions, but what am I missing? What prevents a company like Stripe from coming in?
