I’m expecting an offer soon from @stripe and want to be ready to discuss comp. Are there many opportunities to liquidate equity? Does valuation seem fair after it came down in 2023 funding round?
Too close to ipo and overvalued
I got low ball and rejected the offer. Lower your expectations.
Hypothetically they can offer a tender as often as they want/ whenever there is investor/co demand: since it's single trigger now ideally this would be annually to cover tax liability. Realistically you just have to know they will only offer it if investors are willing to purchase at a price the execs are happy with/fits their narrative (read: flat or up I'd assume). Only very very early stripes got stock without approval/ rofr, everyone else needs board approval which you won't get unless it's a company tender. Ymmv with forward contracts (I know people have done them) but explicitly not allowed in the rsu agreement. So as with all later stage decacorns relatively derisked for a "startup" (I don't think it'd go to 0, but since it's so late stage less upside) but illiquid and no real price discovery so not == public stock or cash.
Hey TY you so much for the reply! This is exactly the kind of information I was hoping for!
Small correction-- tax liability isn't an issue for new hires. Stripe automatically liquidates (or buys) shares every quarter, and you get the remaining amount as RSUs. Tender offers are exclusively for employee liquidity of *after* tax shares.
Stripe openly talks about how they’re not in any rush to IPO. Might be waiting awhile
I wouldn’t join Stripe right now. Start away from this dump!
Could you elaborate? Is that a reflection on WLB? Culture? Comp? Infrastructure? Etc
When was a good time then? Op, the tc is low but stock price is low. As if you are investing in Stripe. It could pay off or it could be like Uber. I dont think paypal or square will beat stripe in the long run
