What level would Zuck be, had he not created FB
Hi all, I was super fortunate to receive a Stripe and return Google internship for Summer 2021. I would love to hear your opinions on whether should I choose given that this is my last internship so this would be my fulltime company if I’m given a return offer. Stripe Pros: - I really like their inteview process. It’s one of the best interview experience I had so far. Interview questions and the people here are great. - I’m interested in payments space. I believe in the success of the company - Fast-paced, more room to grow (?) Cons: - Their new RSU policy. There would be much less upside? - Less job security Google Pros: - Bigger name (?) - A lot more products to work on. I’m also interested in Geo, Payments, Commerce products. - More job security Cons: - Maybe I have to do additional interview? - I was open source intern this summer so I didn’t have all access to internal stuffs which kinda threw me off - Really slow I’m an international student so I also appreciate info on H-1B and Green Card process at both companies. Any info on Stripe WLB, projects, career growth, compensation would be helpful too! Thank you all! #stripe #google #tech
What is their new RSU policy? I haven’t heard of this update
I’ve heard bad things about Stripe culture and would also recommend during this time of economic uncertainty to work for a larger and more stable company
What are the bad things about Stripe culture if you dont mind sharing?
What weird languages?
Ruby and Scala
Google has conversion interviews for interns to full time if that's something you care about.
Yeah but it’s easier than from the outside.
You had me at "interested in payment space". Go Stripe and you'll complain a whole lot less later on
Stripe for sure - I don’t think the pros you listed under Google are actually advantageous for Google, maybe aside from more products to work on.
Would you mind sharing your current exp with Stripe?
You wanna work remotely at some point?
Not at the moment. I have never worked at a physical office so I would want to experience that a bit. But having an option to work remotely work be great :)
Honestly both are great. Both will pay well and both are a launchpad for your career. If you tend to like a little less structure and a little more risk I would lean towards stripe since we pre ipo. If you value stability and structure, google. You know yourself better than we do so hopefully that helps!
The new RSU policy _helps_ you as a new grad. When you get hired as an L1, you get much fewer RSUs than an L2 or L3 would. When you get a single initial grant, that’s not repriced when you get promoted. That means you’re getting underpaid in years 3, 4 and beyond. With the new RSU policy, you actually earn your fair share when you get promoted. I’m not advocating for the policy. It’s shitty for people who are not planning to get promoted, but it’s an absolute win for those who are.
How does it help those that get promoted? Does the RSU policy mean everyone at a given level makes the same amount?
This is only true if you assume the stock isn’t gonna double every year.
I would go Google so you can get FTE without interviewing again. Then recruit full time for Stripe next year and negotiate
You need to interview again. For this reason specifically I’d recommend Stripe.
But for stripe u can just get a return offer and dont have to reinterview again right?
