I keep seeing posts about Stripe being the hottest company in payments right now but I don't understand what makes them special. How are they differentiated from all the other payment processing companies? Why are they any better than Square for merchants? Someone please enlighten me.
Nothing special about them. They just pay a ton of money and have a good engineering culture

That's a great breakdown, thanks. PayPal seems completely ubiquitous in online businesses though. How is Stripe's platform better than PayPal's? What is their pitch for winning customers from an entrenched competitor?
