Stunned by Oracle Offer: left stranded due to visa sponsorship confusion

Hi Blind community, For past 2 months I have been in the process of interviewing for a role in @Oracle. I got the offer letter and I signed it. I did all the onboarding tasks and the recruiter suddenly calls me up saying visa sponsorship is not offered for this role. I am in a shock and in a state of disbelief, since I asked her multiple times before and she said yes there’s a team that takes care of it. Have been writing emails to the hiring manager but he’s been ghosting me ever since I told my current company and they are already looking for my replacement. This is a really hard pill to swallow. Feels so unprofessional, irresponsible for a company that is so big. Any ideas on what should I do next Update: the background check is still going on and they are calling my current employer for verification also I received an Oracle laptop today.! Contacted the recruiter and she said they are very clear in not sponsoring visa for this role. Can’t believe the extend of miscommunication and what is happening here.

This happened before. Very unprofessional though.

Ask current company.. see if they keep you.

Never ever ever ever resign from your current job unless and until the new I797 is in your hands. These are immigration 101. Did you land in the US 6 months ago?

New norm is to not quit till 1 working day before your start date. Companies may revoke your offer anytime these days.

Did you clearly state in your job application that you would need visa sponsorship (either now or in the future)? I have seen cases where offers get rescinded when employers found out it’s not the case. You have to understand they cannot do I-9 until you start. So this happens. Not saying this is OP’s situation, but it’s a reasonable question to ask.

Yes I clearly mentioned I need visa sponsorship

Go tell you current company manager that you want to stay. This is number one thing. I had the same situation in 2017.

Deloitte FRQr47 OP May 2

Yeah I told them about it, but since they have an idea that I am looking out for a job change they want to be prepared as well finding and getting my replacement

Oracle is a POS …especially OCI. They are scrambling for headcount and will say yes to anything and will ghost you without any remorse. Oracle is literally scraping bottom of the PIP barrel right now …and will likely layoff thousands this time next year.

Oracle abahdysz May 2

Look who is talking ?😂 nobody is scraping from your pip barrel. We have overwhelming amount of applications for a single role. Including folks from the real MANGs.

Shame the damn recruiter.

Intuitive Apollo245 May 2

Such dumb to give notice before even filing visa?

Deloitte FRQr47 OP May 2

Didn’t give notice just unofficially informed, also I did that since the recruiter confirmed thrice that they will file for h1b transfer

Intuitive Apollo245 May 3

There is no unofficial thing, you won’t say your boss until you get receipt number filed. And official notice after approval.

Sounds about right, no one has any clue what is going on
