About to close on a home. Looking to install 85 inch tv in living area. Please share any brands/models you recently bought and share any experiences. My budget is preferably under 2000 dollars. Also, I see that Samsung is giving decent discounts for Microsoft employees. Any other companies have better discounts with Samsung or any other brand? TIA #tv #newhome
I have had good experiences with Samsung… but for that size, you would not get a great set for $2000. If your room has no bright sunlight, an LG OLED ( or Sony) is going to be the very best, but Samsung comes close. I definitely recommend a “full array” as opposed to an “edge array” set. If you watch over-the-air content, you should be aware that 4K broadcasts are becoming more common.. but not all sets can receive them. (Adapters are available) For sound.. a good quality sound bar, or a receiver and speakers are definitely much better than what you get from any set. If you enjoy films, consider Dolby Atmos
I got a sony bravia A80K oled 65 inch for $1775. Extremely happy with the purchase. You can get bravia led 85inch within 2k
That’s enormous. Have you looked in person? I have 65 and can’t imagine getting bigger
I’ve had a 75 inch for the last 4 years. Looking at 90+ going forward. You are missing out. Shows, gaming, movies are way better on a larger screen. Laser TVs and conventional projectors just don’t compare
it entirely depends on your room
Upgraded from 65 LG OLED to Samsung 85 QLED QN90B for $2200. Very happy and didn't notice any difference in black levels.
Did you get any employer discount?
Yes but now you can get them around that price without it.
LG or bust
LG OLED. Nothing beats it in quality. It’s the iPhone of TVs
I see multiple people recommending LG OLED. Did not know LG is a leading brand in TVs. LG OLED TVs are pricey though
The OLEDs are nice. Sony OLEDs use LG panels, but are more expensive and considered better overall. Lower end LG (non-OLED) is not great. OLED is best when you can eliminate ambient light in the room The equipment in my family room is worth well over 20K .. so I do know a reasonable amount about this stuff

Buy lg Oled c2 or c3 even 77 inch is decent .
LG OLED seems to be pricier compared to Samsun NEO QLED. In the past, LG had a bad reputation for sound. Not sure if that changed over time
you never use a tvs speaker if you even remotely want good sound. lg oled is superior in every way
