Hello all It’s been 3 years at Amazon I joined as L4. There are some concerns about my promo, the manager feels there is gap, moreover sde-3 in the team doesn’t like it when I oppose to his ideas, takes it personally and is not supportive of promo. How can I progress in this situation TC: 150k
3 years at l4 is a red flag. You honestly may be best joining a new team at Amazon, you have to have your sde3 supporting and ideally your manager is advocating for you to them too. Would suck to restart but may help before more time passes. Are you getting design and implementation work at current role? Do you see the same gaps they do? And how much do you want to do to get to next level. I will say l4 here is easy compared to some other companies so you'd have to evaluate how much transferable skills you have if you wanted to leave (l5 much more comparible)
I do see some gaps. But manager was okay to take it further until he got peer feedback. I am open to feedback and cover the gaps. But I am worried if I get piped because of the time spent in L4
Look at yourself objectively and understand your peers' perception of you. They might be right and you might be wrong. It stings at first but work on it and it will make you a better engineer in the long run.
You look doomed.
Have you been in the current team for 3 years, or did internal transfer? Sounds like current org has lots of politics.
In the same team for 3 years
Promotions are a scam. Believe me, if you didn't get promoted in 3 years, a part of you doesn't want to take the additional responsibilities and do the needful ass licking. Better switch for a higher pay and additionally a higher position.
