Could this be fake news?
Knew Joseph, this is real.
It's real. He was an SRE at Uber and LinkedIn in the past. LinkedIn may have removed his profile. Not sure what's LinkedIn's policy. Maybe his family requested it to be taken down.
You never work in a startup ?
Managing time is the skill that comes with experience. As for start up, we are way over it. It's not 5 man shop when every bit counts 10 times.
If job is stressful why not quit ? I am sorry for the loss
Is hard to quit you felt guilty like you are not good enough.
"The sad thing is this place (Uber) has broken me to the point where I don’t have the strength to look for another job,” Thomas wrote."
I am shocked that people from uber can so easily dismiss this as problems in the family or long hours.... wow just wow. It's like you have lost all humility. A father and husband has just been lost. How could you be so judgemental. No wonder why it's such a sh ...ty place to work. Merely going by the two responses from uber guys, I am sure no one wants to be there
Are you saying that we should abandon all due process and critical thinking just because he was a husband and father?
@GutM35 not sure what you are including in critical thinking. But right away saying that this is a family issue is certainly not part of critical thinking. Every body else is commenting too giving opinions without being judgemental. the uber comment did stand out, at least to me
Some startups with bad management force individuals to the limit. I experience suicidal thoughts and I considered myself mental stable. If you had those fillings please leave/quit the company, don't give a fuck about that people going to talk about you. This is a serious and real problem. All in the name of profit, fuck this rat race.
I've heard about people having horrible dental experiences, but I think this takes it to a new level!
Yeah, I couldn't cope with such horrible fillings even in the name of profit.
All these people blaming his family and the guy himself are pieces of s***. You seriously can't imagine a person having to support a family in the modern rat race having a hard time quitting his job? There's so much societal pressure to conform and make money/be better than everyone else/pay for family/buy expensive stuff combined with the lovely Uber culture in this case.
the guy had a great resume. worked at LinkedIn before. just move on so you can be there for your family instead of them being in the situation they are in now.
Moving a job is not easy. He had a family to feed so could not easily quit and prepare. Tech job market is hot only for those who had luxury of time to study. Actual interview to hire rate is very low because every engineers think others suck if they dont solve your problem quickly.
Sad! but it's hard to believe something like a company or a job can take control of your life.
Why is San Francisco chronicle the only news website that has this story? Just curious.
Theyre not the only ones. Google showed at least 10 results. Yahoo search showed about 5 results.
What about Bing?!
About the same time, Ubers were making fun of Amazon guy jumped off the roof without realizing a colleague of them shot himself in the head. Sad.
