Last good year to visit europe
I am kind of satisfied with my SWE job but want to give a shot to other type of roles. Yoe 5 years From a purely monetary perspective, which career path would lead to higher tc now and 10 years down the line.
TC or GTFO? You know the rules.
And so do I
The question doesnt mean much because it assumes you'll progress in all of those roles at the same pace and max out at the same level - that's very unlikely. Assuming equal "level" you'll probably make a little more as swe. However, PMs skew much more senior and the population of L6, L7 and L8 PMs is a much bigger chunk of the total PMs population compared to similarly leveled swe (which are rare- at least 7+). In summary: Equal levels - swe Equal skills - probably PM Reality - you're probably better at one of them and that's where you'll get paid more
Well you can't get to know if you are better at PM than SWE unless you try it.
Er...you work at DE Shaw, how much more money do you think you're gonna get elsewhere? TC?
The votes are tilting towards SWE, but Consulting seems to have pretty hefty bonuses which may exceed the SWE TC. Also, SWE may get more TC than PM at the beginning, but will it persist for 10 years?
Why would anyone stay 10y in consulting? Also 10 y down the line you can probably be l7 and make pretty hefty money.
So no one stays 10 years in Consulting?
