Hello folks, After looking at how much the software guys make compared to Hardware engineers down the road, I felt like it’s not foolish to switch into software before it’s too late! I have about 7 yrs of experience in ASIC, CAD design and automation, Also Comfortable with C/shell/Perl/python/Django web design etc., Can someone please help me to get started for my transition from HW to SW engineer? What’s is the skill set that’s highly valuable and would make me ready for a switch ? Would solving questions of easy/medium level in leet code with good understanding will tell me that I am ready ? What skill set would increase my chances to be eligible for more number of SWE job roles ?

op Do you find your work interesting ? What if situation changes in a decade vis a vis HW is in more demand? What if you switch to SW and still cannot command high salaries in a decade like your other peers of same experience will ? Will you be unhappy always just by looking at others ?
only Google FB folks FANG are making 300k
I did this move from hw to sw, 7 years ago and do not regret it one bit. Good luck, let me know if you need any help. SW has so many more opportunities. Skills are very portable across domains and product s.
Give me some tips ..I want to do it badly but getting so much resistance from industry...looks like I am already type casted
Yes, would be great if can you share some tips about your transition?
Can you program FPGAs? If so you should look into HFT firms. Actually some of them might be looking into ASICs by now. You would make much more than a regular software guy.

Why is there such a difference in pay? I studied computer engineering but went the software route because pay and finding work were both better
I think the SWE guys have more companies or opportunities around to go to whereas HW guys only have certain options ! Companies have to 💰 💰 💰 to retain the talent whereas for HW there is no leverage like that 😐!
Margins. Hardware can't afford to not have a blockbuster product since the margins are so slim and the industry is so capital intensive.
