Any examples of folks in tech management (Dir/Sr. Dir) in Fin companies like Wells, Allstate that have got opportunities at Tech companies like the FANG one’s in similar roles? If so how did you do it? Any pointers from people that have done it would be great. Hope to get an idea of the level of the challenge and what one might have to do to be able to switch.
$280-$300K TC would map to level 5 in Google?
Do any of these tech companies bring in people from outside at the senior levels or are these mostly promos from within? I guess what are they looking for at those levels? Technical chops, people skills/soft skills?
It's a mix. Google regularly hires director level exec from outside. Injong Rhee who was Samsung bixby head as well as head of many other projects just joined Google as senior director.
I doubt they will get anywhere near director role in fang. I know of a very good program manager who joined Google last year, she was Dir at Wells Fargo. In Google, she's at level 5, 3 levels below director. Probably similar compensation though.
Director in Google is MD in Goldman Sachs, or partner in smaller firms
