Hello, I am currently working as a procurement lead in an oil & gas related manufacturing company. Although it's not bad, I am always attracted to move to tech industry esp. Google, Microsoft are my first choices. Obviously, better pay is an important factor behind this aspiration but also the work culture and potential future risks in O&G. I am 32 yo, an Mechanical engineer with 9 years of experience including 7 years SCM, a bit in Quality and functional key user for SAP QM and MM modules. I never tried programming and may not be a great at it. How can I prepare myself to move to supply chain management in the tech industry. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks!
Apply to Amazon, they take anyone with functional skills irrespective of industry experience
Thanks. That's an option. May be not the first choice but could be stepping stone!
maybe internal transfer first?
But I am looking to switch industry from O&G to Tech. Didn't get what you are suggesting here? Could you please elaborate? Thanks!
