Hello Blind community I have been doing Marketing program management for the last 5 years ( start ups and contracting in Google and Meta). I have been passionate about digital marketing and was doing some freelance work for a year which I enjoyed. I would like to explore options on how to switch profiles 1. I am currently doing a coursera course on statistics in marketing and planning to do a digital marketing course too. Reality says just because I do these courses I won't be given a digital marketing job. What else should I do? Where should I start? 2. One thought I have is, looking at agency jobs and not corporate, but wondering what the pay is like? 3. What should be the target salary in corporate? I understand I don't have hands on experience but it's not totally an unknown territory.
Thanks for the breakdown...I make close to 200k as a contractor doing PgM. The numbers scare me a little bit. The number you are quoting - is this in bay area?
Would you recommend contracting with Meta?
These salaries are accurate for nyc so probably similar for bay
If you’d like to switch to Demand Gen, yes training is important — however, make the switch quicker by taking your current experience and showcasing metrics on your linkedin/resume about how you drive leads/adoption/attendees. I’ve popped around to all different types of marketing even with no concrete experience by crafting the right story on my resume (obvi back it up w/results). Salary depends on YOE/Title/Area tbh
Can I pm you?
Yeah, np
You could do it at Meta. Contact David Castor.

Agencies will pay you peanuts and may lowball the shit out of you if you don't have the directly relevant experience, based on my experience. If you have a lot of program management experience, your best in may be to look for a people manager role on a digital marketing team so long as you can speak to digital marketing best practices during the interview. If you manage people, your program management experience will map more directly because a lot of the work is the same at its core: ensuring your direct reports implement and execute campaigns properly and on time while you compile and report on results.
Thanks .one of the reasons I am trying to get out of PgM role is...I miss owning things...I miss the creativity and strategic thinking
So not sure if I again want to do the same..I hear your reasons but yeah
If you’re in a demand gen / growth role you will be responsible for a number (ie. Pipeline and revenue). If you haven’t held a number before it can be stressful whereas PMM roles traditionally are about execution. Pretty big difference there imo. There is a lot of demand for paid digital / performance marketing roles. In tech, I would say entry level roles in HCOL will get you about $80-$100k, program manager $100-$120k, manager $120-$140k, senior manager $150-$190k, director $170-$230k. All depends on size of company and industry, well funded late stage or big tech companies you can put 10-25% on top of that. And take 10-25% off that for early stage potentially, This is base salary specifically.
Thanks for the input. I have thought about the target related stress..I am not sure about PMM since I am not that technical..so wondering if understanding technicalities of the product would be an issue.
I know PMM’s that are and are not technical. Really depends but most I would say are not technical
I would also look at doing the following: Google Ads and Linkedin Ads certification, demandbase ABM certification. The certs don’t really get you the role but will expose you to the ad platforms and how they are run. Look into conversion rate optimization on landing pages as well. A/B testing is critical in the role

do u want to leave Meta? if so, why? the pay probably won't be as high, at an agency
It's not about Meta...it's more About my profile..I want to switch
1. Having actual campaign experience is the most important for marketers. I would try getting some experience at small startups that have budget to spend. 2. Agency pay is def lower than in house roles but it would expedite gaining campaign experience. Maybe grind for a year and start looking for corporate roles? 3. It varies by industry and company. I'm in tech with 7 yoe in growth marketing. Base is $151k with $27k options (paper).
Thanks..if I have to come back for corporate roles after one year of agency experience, what salary can I look at
Depends on YOE. If you come in at a director/associate director you can expect around $125kish. If you come in at a Manager role expect around $80-90k. Entry level specialist/coordinator can go as low as $50k.
