Hey guys, My wife is currently a Technical Program Manager at LinkedIn and is considering a move to Product Management within the company. How feasible is it to make the switch? Also not sure if it means anything, but she comes from a CS background as well. Any insights from folks would be kindly appreciated. Thanks! TC 600k combined
Interesting... Is this the CEO of Nutanix taking opinion on bind? Or the name resembles the name of CEO
Welcome to Blind. It's all fake news, all the time.
Feasible yes. PM does not require a CS degree as LI is not sold to techies. But there are PMs for internal products as well. Requires the person to find both a mentor and a champion
Very tough to transfer into product at LinkedIn. Every one looking to transfer to product (upto Sr director level) must go through the APM interview process (entry level/fresh grad level) and become an APM first before rising through the ranks. Very frustrating. Also LinkedIn only accepts 4-6 PM transfers a year across the entire company.
This sounds ridiculous af
Hold up. You mean theoretically, a Staff SWE at LI if he was able to transfer into Product they would have to start as an APM? Maybe I’m not understanding correctly but that definitely doesn’t sound right.
Same at Workday. I lost to externals each time :(
It’s feasible but the first question people are gonna ask her is something like “WTF is going on with your current role.” So she gotta be like “well I noticed this dumpster fire over here and I think I can make it better”. And her boss be like “ok you’re on.” And at this point it’s all about luck. Otherwise forget about it.
