Hi, I am hoping to get some advice on how possible it is to do well on system design interviews without building large scale systems. Lets say you have worked in roles where you just dont have a ton of exposure to such things. How much can one get through the interview with just study/book knowledge?
Start by reading Grokking book and then spend time researching and reading more about core concepts like sharding scaling etc
Also read blogs/papers on popular projects like Facebook scribe, Kafka, waltz, chubby, mapreduce,

Why, you can get all the way through the interview with nothing but books and self-studying.
