System design is so vast, do we need to remember all the details and crunch those user numbers etc. i have had very less exposure at my job with regards to building systems etc so I come from almost zero knowledge, I read across grokking once but don’t think I retained any info. How do I study system design efficiently in less amount of time? Aiming for companies like yelp, Bloomberg to begin with and then meta. Yoe: 1.6 Tc: 🥜 #amazon

System design is indeed broad. Just went through Meta loop with two system design interviews and each was unique. One was a domain problem that facebook had to solve and they turned it into a system design, the other was like a puzzle. Both applied commonly seen concepts like caching, sharding, database choices, tradeoffs between availability and consistency. They also require the ability to build apis, how you reduce complexity of a design to meet performance goals, and to find efficient ways to implement a design.
