Can every American SDE invert binary tree ? Every SDE on H1B can. My point is there is huge difference in hard work and dedication, American still prefer partying and leisure
Owners want cheapest labor who have no choice
Yeah I get this perspective and I think it made sense in the past because pay probably would have gotten out of control without H1b. but judging by what I’ve seen here on Blind there are many previously employed devs that are ready to work. Many more candidates per role than before.
No doubt at all, and the US could stop defunding schools so we produce our own. But that costs money too. However until we are all earning minimum wage, they will keep trying to flood the market. You’re either labor or owners, and owners give zero shits, “fuck you, I got mine” is the motto.
We’re coming for you
Every week, 2-4 posts like this one on blind, no output, just noise. Need to figure how to filter these
Still waiting for a good argument to keep H1bs flowing. Are you able to articulate that?
If I had a company, I’d take the largest pool of employees possible and select top K candidates from it that I can afford. In case of US companies, the world is the pool. US companies are doing the same. * Companies owe no job opportunities to any country’s citizens. They create jobs, but no one has the right to claim on them. Companies get to decide who to hire, just ensuring that they abide by labor laws * Companies don’t function for the benefit of a country or its citizens or its own employees, but only for its shareholders
One thing I noticed is Americans are particular about their work locations. Not everyone is ok moving to Redmond for example. This was much worse where I studied (Utah) most of the Mormons there wanted to stay in SLC. H1B ppl are location agnostic and are lower flight risk. We need to think of so many things before switching companies. Over time these reasons will go away . Indians like me will go back and you can watch tucker Carlson and Alex Jones in a brown ppl free usa 🥹
You are saying "young people can relocate more easily", which is not interesting
You have no idea who is in Indian’s favor. Tucker Carlson’s bestie is Indian. Republicans have two Indian decent presidential candidates (one of them was a governor). When affirmative action debate happened, you watch CNN and MSNBC or whoever is from the democratic party side was denouncing merit based system and they want more allocations for Hispanic and black. In fact, black people are disadvantaged because they are lumped with hispanics who have much more population (thus many times more admissions at Ivy go to Hispanics not black). Asians are limited to under 25% though Indian population has increased tremendously and their kids add to the fierce competition. Indian and other Asian kids compete for the allocated spot and this is why your kids can’t get into top 30 college to study CS let alone Ivy and the likes despite all As and 12 AP classes or whatever to go with sport, arts, community service and etc. Democratic party’s value doesn’t align with Indians at all. I doubt Indians agree to the idea 13 years old can decide their own gender and goes through surgery without parental consent and parents lose their custody when they reject to the gender switch or surgery idea. Indians value family a lot and that’s not democratic party.
Maybe US doesn’t, but so many execs are Indian now, they will keep bringing more.
Funny how that works…
H1B is supposed for workers with specializations(Not just tech but every other field). With AI like all other things if some jobs get dissolved some new jobs will slowly get created. Hence new types of specializations will be needed. It is US which was built on getting 'best' from the world. Hence I don't think there will ever be redundancy of H1B or similar visa category in future.
That’s a really appealing argument. And generally I like the idea of working with and competing with the world’s best. But H1b wasn’t intended for hiring the world’s best, it’s for filling gaps when US-born workers aren’t available. There’s a separate Visa meant for “extraordinary” talent.
Some countries have done that where they did no longer need any workers from outside. Malta recently did that. Even companies do not sponsor worker visas there anymore. It all depends on how policy makers, party in power, other departments who have data on finances, budgeting, profits, census see it. If it is part of their strategy they might remove it. There is a reason H1B exists and might not be removed soon. Plus whenever there were restrictions there were more for political reasons which soon got overturned when another political party came into power.
H1Bs are just hungrier for success.
Most H1Bs are successful people ofc. But it a legal way to work in the USA. What else can they do?
Because people who live here get lazy
🙄
Because tech companies lobby for cheap labor that will work 70 hours a week due to fear of getting fired and having to find a job in 90 days.
