Im a senior majoring in CS @UW with 4 internships at startups under my belt, and I’m looking to break into big tech. However I’m finding it very difficult to get noticed by the big tech companies esp Microsoft, Apple, Google and Meta. I have a decent LinkedIn, about 4000 followers and connections and try to post occasionally, yet nothing. Any tips are appreciated 😭😭😭#tech #microsoft #apple #meta
It’s not you, just the market and economy. Keep hustling though with referrals and such. Situation might slowly improve. Right now big tech is mostly hiring experienced folks afaik
I agree with you, but at the same time I keep seeing my friends landing internships at these companies so I feel like there is something they are doing that I’m not. When I asked them they just say keep applying but definitely that’s not helping. I just don’t wanna blame it on the market and I want to do whatever it takes to get an interview at these companies. Solved ~800 leetcode and regularly do mock interviews so pretty prepared for technicals
Understandable. Connections can move mountains sometimes. They saved a few I know who got laid off. Maybe you can try shaking the forest if big tech is that important to you. I’m assuming you have the basics ready and reviewed- like resume, github etc
Bad time for junior devs. Go to a startup and create your own, join as a senior dev in 3-5 years.
UW is weak. You need stanford on your resume to get acknowledged
Just apply I graduated last year from a T250 state school with just 1 internship at State Farm. I had no problems getting big tech interviews and even got a startup offer. No referrals or anything, just cold applications
Dm for TikTok referral
Add a unicorn on your resume first. I am pretty sure having Uber on mine got me noticed.
I’m applying for those too, Datadog, databricks Uber Notion like literally anything to boost my resume.
As long as your resume is properly formatted and you’ve got the right keywords on there, it’s literally just a numbers game. Keep applying, something will click eventually. Also, recruiters don’t give a single fuck about how active you are or how many followers you have on LinkedIn. I’ve never posted and only have around 100 connections
Find someone to refer you
Applied to Microsoft, Apple multiple times with referrals still end up getting rejected every single time :(( there’s only so many people I can ask for referrals
I get rejected so fast with referrals 😅 One of my UW grad program alums who referred me to Meta said I was more than qualified for their linguistic engineer position, but I got rejected the next morning 🤐
