Last year I got a verbal offer from Bloomberg (182k) for new grad 2023. I accepted but the offer letter never came. A little over a week later my recruiter emailed me and said they were no longer offering me the position. They never explained why and pretty much ghosted me after that. My other offer was Raytheon (95k *after* negotiating), honestly I just didn't really apply to enough places cause I felt like I had Bloomberg in the bag. So I ended up at Veeva (125k) which was pretty much my backup plan. Working here is just straight up depressing, especially seeing my friend working at Amazon. I had to tutor this man when he was failing Data Structures, and yet he ends up with a better career? I can't blame anyone but it's hard not to be frustrated when success was so close. I'm going to try applying for new grad 2024 roles. Does anyone have tips for applying to new grad roles a year after college? Especially when the market is on a downturn? Or if anyone can share a similar situation so at least I know I'm not alone here. P.S. Orange is not a good color for your startup/office. Something about it just feels uncomfy. #advice #newgrad #depression #bloomberg #interviewing #idk
After a year of experience most places won’t consider you for new grad roles. You need to go in at L+1.
When did you receive the verbal offer? Pretty sure the market went south and they filled all the spots they had. Also, can I ask for a Veeva referral
The end of october. Also you don't want to be here.
Orange is a weird color, also your friend at Amazon is gonna get pip'd, I knew 3 dumbasses who all got a job at Amazon when I know for a fact they can't code for shit and cheated their way through university and even interviewes, and then they all got laid off recently. So don't waste time envying others and instead focus on improving your own career, 1 year out of college you can still apply for new grad jobs but the markets not great at the moment so take the time to improve your interview skills and make up some good stories about your current role to use in interviews
Has bbg opened up new grad 2024 roles yet?
Not yet afaik
You have a job and that’s great considering the situation. Just keep at it and you’ll end up with something better. It sucks to not get an offer from Bloomberg. I get that. You are anyway spending your time and energy at the current place, you might as well like what you are doing. Talk to your contacts, not peers but folks or relatives in tech industry who have worked long enough. They can refer you to their companies or their contacts.
My first internship was a referral and that paved way to rest of my career so far.
that’s not what layoff means
Hi OP, what is not good about working at Veeva? I'm quite curious.
Business leadership has instituted all sorts of micromanaging practices, while at the same time cutting benefits. I know a bunch of senior engineers on my team quit as a result. No particular guidance or path to grow from junior to mid level, and I don't feel like the work is substantially adding to my resume either. If anything it's making me a worse engineer because the modus operandi is to duct tape the fastest solution possible to close a ticket even if it breaks things and introduces performance issues. On top of the fact that they pay poorly and what little RSU I do have has already lost 40% of its value. And seeing that after the market was so hot in 2021-2022, it hurts knowing my career has been derailed. Not only will I be making so much less, but I also am not getting the experience I would need to make mid-level FAANG in a few years.
Man up?
I mean if your friend is as stupid as you say he’s gonna get PIPed at Amazon, I wouldn’t keep thinking about it. I agree orange is a weird office color, I’m glad my company picked green
