Don't go for it. Bad experience. Look for comprehensive insurance from US companies. Read up on comprehensive vs non. Go to visitorscoverage.com. Look into Patriot America Plus. Tata will seem a lot cheaper than these, but they have sub-limits on most billable items. In case you are not aware of sub-limits, here is an example. Let's say a surgery requires a anesthesiologist, which is billed at 20k. Tata might have a sub-limit for this item of 5k. Surgeon fees 40k, sub-limit 10k. Plus a few more pages of charges. A 100k bill, could cost you 80k out of pocket, as adding all sub limits will be close to 20k which AIG will pay for, even if you opted for 500k coverage. Moreover, they aren't part of any hospital network in US, so are billed at "out of network" rate which is arbitrary and very high. They partner with United Healthcare so people think UHC is the main company that will take care of them, which isn't true. UHC just handles the documentation on their behalf. They are like a courier company between you and AIG. Your claims will still be processed in India using their shitty rules.
