This post goes out to those of you who are new to Blind and haven’t gotten around to learning Blind etiquette just yet. I’m here to give a quick lesson to some of you scrubbies on the proper way to create a Blind post. Around here, it’s considered bad manners to not include your total compensation at the bottom of every post you make. You’ve probably run into a couple of “TC or GTFO” comments already, and may be quick to think that it’s just a joke, but I’m here to tell you that it’s not at all a joke, and why it’s very important for you to disclose your TC. It’s no question that there’s a lot of taboo in real life culture around sharing things such as your compensation and net worth with your friends and peers. Everyone has been trained to believe that personal finances should be a sensitive topic and should only be discussed within your household. Our society was indoctrinated into this mindset long ago by the wealthy and powerful who want the middle class to feel content with what they have and ignorant towards the potential of what they could have, and by corporations who want to be able to pay you as little as possible when extending an offer, knowing that you’re more than likely unaware of your own true market value. Blind is a workforce community based on anonymity and transparency. We share things on here that you normally wouldn’t if you were in any way identifiable. And your TC is one of the most important things you can share about yourself with relation to the data on your username tag (i.e your verified company name and job family). I actually take it one step further and think it should be “TCYOELOCNWAGE or GTFO”, and I want to explain why each of these bits of information is important for you to be open about in order to maintain a healthy community here. TC: Total Compensation. The cornerstone of Blind. Absolutely required. It’s important for others to know about how much you’re getting paid for what you do. This allows others to build a better idea of what the market value of their work is and how much money they should be seeking when interviewing. YOE: Years of Experience. Also required because knowing your TC alone isn’t enough to give people a deep enough understanding of how much their work could be worth. Someone could be making $500k TC, but if you don’t know their YOE, you have no idea how long they spent working to reach that. In most cases, it makes sense to share your Job Title along with this. LOC: Location. Extremely important to provide this too, as the cost of living varies drastically around the world. If someone’s making $160k TC, that could be considered quite low in HCOL areas like SF Bay/NYC, but that’d be a ton in areas like the Midwest or India. This data is especially important when it comes to job offer comparisons. NW: Net worth. Another one of those things that, for some reason, people don’t like discussing in real life. It’s very helpful to the community to share your net worth and how much wealth you’ve managed to accumulate over time, based on your TC/YOE/LOC. At the end of the day, we’re all just trying to help each other, so any opportunity to share things like this is a good one in my eyes. Bonus points if you share your NW breakdown too. AGE: How old you are. Usually you can derive this from YOE, but in some cases, people start working much later in life. I don’t see any reason to not disclose it. At the very least, it could help bring awareness to ageism in certain places. Anyways I hopes this helps some of you newbies. Sorry for the long post, but I do think it’s really important for people to know about what this community is really interested in. Happy Blinding! Now share your TCYOELOCNWAGE or get the fuck outta here! My data: TC: $175k base + $120k RSU YOE: 6 (SDE II) LOC: SF Bay Area NW: $800k AGE: 28
I used to be 28 before I started to read this post, now that I’m done I’m 29

So annoying...
Eww flex machine
If you actually read the post, you wouldn’t think it’s a flex
Is it some Indian matrimonial thingy?
all I read is OP’s TC at the end, can someone do a TLDR;?
Yeah, same.
That was a long one. We really need a TLDR. I lost my youth reading through this one. LOL
It's actually well argued IMO, OP presented their thought process well. Might want to just read it whole.
TLDR: OP wants to flex their stats. All the other contents are BS.
This guy blinds!!! 😂😂
