Facebook has high promotion speed. People who get promoted from E3 to E5 in just 1 year are outliers but it’s possible. I discovered FatFIRE recently and am making it my goal to increase TC by working harder/smarter/whatever it takes. My TC now is under $160k. My RSU are small because I joined as enterprise engineer. IC3 I can either switch companies in 2020 and go to google (failed interview with them this year) or stay at Facebook, transfer to SWE, and hope for rapid promotion and/or DE. Which is the better option? Does Google reward “impact” as much as Facebook?
does fb actually promote faster than google?
Yeah I’ve heard that FB has 2 reviews per year that hold equal weight (vs having annual and mid-year review) and that usually translates to faster promotions (and pips)
I think the real difference is that at FB your managers notifies you when you get promoted vs Google where you have to self-promote and build a case for it. Meaning your manager at FB will most likely promote you the second you're ready but Google can make you wait.
Why are these companies the only options? If you want fast promo, go pre-IPO

Good for you to assume you can get offer at Google and can pass interview for FB SWE with rapid promotion after failing both.
