TC sucks being SAP Consultant??

What is the best way to get more TC for SAP functional consultants. Its tough to crack interviews with FAANG companies because of the fact that those interviews are based on code and weird system design questions which we don’t deal with it on regular day to base working with SAP modules, especially functionals! Also not every FAANG company use SAP so, we don’t see too many opportunities in those companies. I am wondering how to work on myself to come out of this shell as i got stuck here with not much progress in my career… I know that i have come a long way starting my career with 300/400$ per month to 135k$/Yr having rural background but is not sufficient now due to the raise in expenses and inflation and also very less for my experience (11 yrs) in the market. Home buying itself has become more challenging nowadays. Looking at blind community people with 4/5 years of experience are doing great in terms of TCs and i never knew that TC can go this much before blind… started asking increments with my manager but failed as he started backing himself saying xyz reasons … nothing materialistic, am also kind of introvert and poor in internal politics as usually i don’t get into those. On the other side, I am doing great at my job and doing excellent in customer facing role but is not helping with my career growth in my team. I admit that I have joined SAP for less salary without negotiating a 4 yrs back since then i don’t see any growth in my career at all other than getting little freedom from visa restrictions and immigration pressures. Seems like being sap functional consultant sucks in the market… What are all your experiences and what works better in such situations…? Am ok with my immigrations now and can move to any employer without any restrictions. Thank you. YOE: 11, TC: 135K #career #careerbuilder #careeradvice

Do you want to move to a product company as a backend developer?

SAP SAP39 OP Feb 19, 2022

Not really sure if I can switch to a complete developer role now … as i dnt have hands on in my entire career otherthan reading SAP ABAP code and troubleshooting.

Back in the day..SAP consulting was looked at as High TC earner’s… Them and Petroleum Engineers… 😅

This

Doesn’t really suck. But you cant compare the TC of a SWE to an SAP Functional consultant. Where are you located? Don’t say that you are in the Bay Area.

SAP SAP39 OP Feb 19, 2022

In east coast/philly…

Vocera HWiE44 Feb 19, 2022

Ok. Not really sure how the pay is in Philly. I think for lot of people here, half (or even more) of the TC comes from RSUs. I believe SAP doesn’t give your any RSUs

SAP ARjz53 Feb 19, 2022

Need to start with data structures and algorithms. Your ABAP experience is worthless

Vocera HWiE44 Feb 19, 2022

He is a functional consultant. So if he needs to get into coding he is going start his career all over again

SAP SAP39 OP Feb 19, 2022

Thats right, i don’t wanna start my career again. But I have gained knowledge with sap modules horizontally along with specific module solution architectural expertise.

SAP bBmC56 Feb 19, 2022

OP why don’t you try product management? You can use your functional experience and also ramp up more on PM aspects & system design instead of ramping up on leet coding. Just a thought.

Vocera HWiE44 Feb 19, 2022

Exactly. Take up more of solution architect/design roles, rather than sticking to one or 2 modules. Get into a company where there are less SAP functional consultants. My company only has 2 SAP guys

SAP SAP39 OP Feb 19, 2022

Sounds like a plan actually, am also thinking not to start my career all over again. Rather capitalize on whats in my hands…. Cant be a coder for sure all of a sudden, i should have started this early in my career otherwise… thinking I can ramp up on PM aspects and roles related solution design or architecture.. thank you.

Amazon simplexx Feb 19, 2022

Try exploring Solutions Architect roles at AWS/AZURE/GCP, you can apply as a SAP specialist.

SAP SAP39 OP Feb 19, 2022

Sure, I will explore that… thank you.

Get a top MBA and move to management/strategy consulting. SAP consulting is a dying area.
