Would you stay at a bad WLB job to afford college for your kid?

Kid was admitted to Caltech without a cent of financial aid. Tuition is 254k over 4 years. That’s excluding room + board. You have 3 kids. Dad makes 208k working 40 hrs/wk. Mom makes 617k working 92 hrs/wk. Mom was thinking about switching to a better WLB job but if college is going to be this expensive she’d have to stay. The other options are to attend a more affordable college. These cost 48k, 245k, and 248k after financial aid respectively.

Why can’t they get college loan?

Dropbox MoistBoxx Apr 12

Yes definitely. If your kid can get into Caltech they deserve to graduate from there. They obviously have a decent work ethic so it's not like you're spoiling them.

Microsoft gfsg4 Apr 12

The fuck they do.

Dropbox MoistBoxx Apr 12

Why not? Why would you not want to set your child up for success if they have the motivation and work ethic to study at a place like Caltech?

Just give them the 250k to buy a house. Then work min wage to keep lights on. What absurd prices

You can consider sponsoring half of their education for now while getting them a loan for the remaining 50%, so that they also value your investment into them. You can always pay the loan later if it's bothering you.
