Let’s Start H1B to GC protest…!
a modern chat app like Slack or Teams internally! Jaw dropped 🤦♂️🙀 #Google #Slack
Google Chat?
this, obviously
It ain’t that bad honestly.
Little known fact: Google is an unsuccessful chat app company supported by marginally successful crowd funded advertising and occasionally search results. You’ll understand if you look into internal solutions and the few external solutions they maintained over the years. Possibly the only companies with a more crazy plurality of chat apps/trackers are the bank/finance companies. Hell, Bloomberg owes a good deal of continued success to the legally compliant chat community they have maintained.
BChat is pretty cool, yeah. I can message anyone that has a Terminal. I sometimes chat with my friends that work at other firms, from my work computer.
Facts facts facts 🫡
What does Google use?
Google Chat
NOBODY at Google uses Slack or Teams? He entire company? All 140K?
It’s not allowed. Maybe a few teams does but it’s discouraged.
I could see an acquisition continuing to use what they had for a bit until they roll into @google.com but after that, nope. We make a competing product. It might not be all that great (honestly it's not *that* bad), but of course we're not allowed to use competitors. Orgs at MS aren't allowed to use GMail. I got a big nasty message when I used Zoom one time. I was covered by one of the exceptions to policy, talking with a vendor on their Zoom, but my computer definitely yelled at me, lol. Obvs people might use them outside of work.
Yet they bring in 300bil in revenue
Same with Amazon
We live in a world where G started in 98. Doesnt matter what would happen if G started today.
They tried to be cool by being different. Now they've become a joke.
Google has its own office suite, so yeah no Teams. Slack is really expensive at enterprise level. They can do okay with google meet and other g chat.
Google chat was very outdated and lacked most of the modern features, but this significantly changed post pandemic. The team was funded well enough, migrated their backend stack to improve performance and also significant UI changes and feature additions. The way it stands now and how deeply integrated it is with the rest of the Google ecosystem(Meet, Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Drive) is pretty perfect.
I’m guessing you haven’t used slack yet
I have used Gchat and Slack for quite sometime .. Both are literally the same .. Teams is a bloated software .. IBM used to have lotus notes and teams is similar to that ..
I’d slide gChat between Slack and Teams. Some gaps with Slack are covered by bots people make internally like linking to a thread. Teams does not feel modern at all
What’s your definition of modern? Both are bloated behemoths. Meta does not use them either.
Workplace and workchat are terrible tbh. - Cannot edit once you send a message - 1980s search. If i am not sure if my discussion was in chat or workplace i do 2 searches. - why do we need 2 apps instead of a seemless experience for communicating. - mobile apps are terrible and rarely show me workplace posts (this maybe due to forced dogfooding).
Search sucks, especially in WC. The rest, eh… it’s usable. Teams was way worse.
